Subfolder
« on: November 12, 2010, 06:24:44 AM »
Sorry if already posted.

Is there a way to search by "key words" my pictures in the subfolders of a folder?
So I have my folder 2010, with a January subfolder, that has a folder by date I took some pictures. And I need to search all the pictures of Mr Tartempion that I took in 2010.

Thanks, I am new on Photomechanic, before I was with Fotostation.

you can do it.
just open the parent folder in one tab
you will have every subfolder's pictures in one tab, then you can launch your search

I feel that it is what I do?
Crtl/Apple "O" to open, => then I search the 2009, => then "Ok", => and then I have the yellow icon upstairs on the left, but no pictures?

Use the Navigator or Favorites instead.  Right-click on the parent folder, then choose one of the 'Open folder and subfolders' options.

But now, when I am searching some pictures by key words (Mr Tartenpion in 2010) in a big folder, the program often crashes?

How many photos are you working with in a single contact sheet?  Are you certain it is crashing, or does it only appear to be non-responsive?  If you're using the Find or Find/Replace panels, their operations can take a long time to process if the metadata for all of the images hasn't been loaded yet.  Give it time and watch the progress bar for completion.

Yes, I had something like 30 000 thousands pictures in the folder 2009. And yes, the programs shows that it is not responding, but sometimes it is still working, sometimes, it is just "Down".
But can I ask PM to index all my archives?
If it takes 1 hour (or more) but then I can search my pictures in few seconds, it is perfect for me.

Photo Mechanic does not currently have a cataloging feature.  That's what we're so feverishly working on right now.

Oh, something else, if I can?

PM put together the RAW and JPG, is it possible to remove this option, I would like to edit the RAW, and by default it is the JPG that is open?

Thanks again.

You just have to hit "Command J" in order to view Raw and JPG files separately.
Then you select the file and hit E to edit it...
Remember, you can set different editors to edit different kinds of flles (PM Preferences, in Launching tab).

Even better (so you don't have to split them up) is to use the 'Shortcut' key (Option on Mac, Shift on Windows) while you choose the edit command, and the RAW file will be edited instead of the JPEG (basically it toggles your Files preference for editing the RAW or JPEG of the RAW+JPEG pair.)

Thanks, Kirk.
It surely helps a lot not to have to split them before editing the other file.
I didn`t know about that shortcut.
