Live Ingest Help Needed
« on: January 27, 2011, 03:27:54 PM »
I must be doing something very basically wrong when I try to use Live Ingest.
I am running PM beta 4.6.7 on a PC laptop running Windows XP.   I connect my Nikon D300s
to the laptop via a usb cable and then try to run Live Ingest.  I can't "Add" the camera to
the folder list so I am obviously missing something about how to run Live Ingest.
When I use either Lightroom 3 or Nikon Camera Cotrol, the software recognizes the attached
camera and I specify the destination folder for the photos I will be taking.  Photos are
opened in the programs as I shoot.

So I'm sure I am missing a very fundamental here.  Help would be appreciated.

You need to use a dedicated card reader.  PM does not read directly from cameras.

Thank you Kirk, so I guess I don't understand how Live Ingest
differs from regular Ingest.  If a card is in a card reader, how
do new images get into the card?   Is this a WiFi thing?

In general, yes.  But others use their camera manufacturer's software to control their camera when tethered and Live Ingest can monitor the folder that the tethered images are being written to and will Ingest the photo moments after it is taken.
