Flickr upload...with PM 4.6.6
« on: February 12, 2011, 02:30:42 AM »
Hi,

I'm using PM version 4.6.6 (anniversary version)
Mac Book Pro OSX 10.6.6 - Intel based

When I try to upload to Flickr I almost immediately get a popup with the following  message:

Unable to upload because: Hostname not known: flickr.com

Strange because when I click on the Flickr logo in the transmit window my browser opens directly into my Flickr account.

I don't have any DNS issues with my computer so the problem must have an other source.
I'll tried the Terminal solution to put the ip address of Flickr into the Hosts file but it doesn't work. Still the same popup reappears  .

The following rules are in my "Hosts" file:

68.142.214.24 www.flickr.com
68.142.214.24 api.flickr.com

However with no result... ??? ??? ???

I hope you can help me.

I bought this program with the Flickr upload capability in mind and now it is not working. I'm frustrated because the anniversary version of PM is not eligible for future updates.

Alright, I found the solution myself.

In Mac OSX I went to > SystemPreferences > Network.
Clicked then on "advanced"

There was a list with 4 DNS servers. 2 of them were from my old ISP (internet service provider) and they were at top of the dns servers list.
I'll removed them so the actual DNS servers came on top of the list.
After this action the problem was solved.

In the example the bad DNS servers are already deleted.

Hope this helps for others....

Let me clear this up.  By purchasing the special anniversary edition, you get a single user license for Photo Mechanic version 4.6, including all updates in the 4.6.x series.  If there were a fundamental problem, it would get fixed in a future free update.  Once we move to a new major release version, version 4.6 will no longer be maintained.  You're entitled to continue running the latest 4.6.x version as long as you like.  If a new OS release comes out in the future and breaks PM, you would either need to revert to an older OS release, or purchase an upgrade license.  We do everything we can to make PM compatible with future OS releases, but some OS changes break PM in such a way that major reworking is required and it just isn't feasible to maintain two releases.

Version 4.6.7 will be released in the near future and will address all known issues in 4.6.6.
