Passing crops to Photoshop from PM V5
« on: November 08, 2011, 10:49:13 AM »
OK, so looking down the road at the new V5, can you tell me whether it will allow me to set a crop in PM and then when I select the menu option "Open Selected Photos..." with photos containing PM crops, will the resulting image displayed in Photoshop reflect the crop set in PM?

My understanding is that it will show up in Adobe camera raw and lightroom if you are editing a raw file...
Beyond that I've no idea....

I am shooting JPG and then opening selected images directly into CS5.1/Windows.

Mike,

If you set Photoshop to open JPEGs in ACR before opening them as a document then crops set on JPEGs in PM will appear in the ACR plugin with the crops already set.

Setting a crop in ACR and saving the changes will also show the same crop back in PM.

OK, I think I can make this work.  Since I will be opening a batch of JPGs in PS with PM crops, I will have to send them all to ACR first, then do a "Select All" and then "Open" in ACR to get them into PS.  Then do a series of "saves" in PS (I see an action in my future).  I should then end up with a folder of cropped JPGs without the drag of having to do the cropping in PS (PM is much faster).

Thanks

What you described should work just fine.  If you don't need to make any adjustments to the JPEGs, you can crop and save from PM and still get straightened images.

You could just batch save the jpgs from the ACR window....an action might be optional for other reasons.

But if all you're going to do in ACR is save the images, you might as well just skip Photoshop altogether and save from PM.

Kirk,
I sometimes use DPP only for cropping and saving as a high quality jpeg. Can I do it all in PM without opening DPP?
TIA

No, because all you'll get is the quality of the embedded JPEG preview which will not show the adjustments you may have made in DPP.
