Serial number for GoPro cameras
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:38:52 AM »
I sometimes use GoPro cameras for video and even photo capture and of course I handle all photos in PM. It would be great for my renaming workflow that PM would be able to extract serial number info from the GoPro cameras too.
If you need sample images/videos for this I can provide some.
Working on Mac, OSX, iOS and with some Canons.
Allways shooting RAW.

Does ExifTool show a serial number for images from your GoPro camera?

Ok, post a sample image and I'll run ExifTool on it for you.  Use the 'Additional Options...' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG file.

Thanks,

Thanks a lot for your help, and sorry for the hassle.

I don't know video files (produced by still cameras) but is it possible that video files don't have serial num and other similar infos stored in the EXIF in case of still images?

Szurkebarat,

There is no serial number in the photo you uploaded.  There is a wealth of information in the EXIF, just no serial number:

Thanks I will try to contact the manufacturer to ask them if they can include it in their developments. Thanks for your help as always.

I don't know much about video files (produced by still cameras and mostly DSLRs) but is it possible that video files don't have serial num either? My 1D mk4 video files seem to be treated by PM like having none serial number as well - but being a video file can be an explanation to this.

Sorry for returning to this old question of mine but it could help my workflow so I'm curious.

I attached a photo from the GoPro Hero3 Black could you check if there is any serial number info in its EXIF available for PM to use it? Currently PM doesn't show any serial info for it.

I've contacted the manufacturer with this request (long) before Hero3 was announced so I hope for a change in this regard. If thy didn't change it then I will request it again...

Have you tried ExifTool on it yet?  If it won't show a serial number then it likely still doesn't exist.

I don't have ExifTool, I never used it and don't even know how to do it. I thought it is easier for you or somebody else here who has experience with it.

I will include this request in my next letter to them (again) - let's hope they will develop this - at least for the next version of the camera.
