Applying Metadata to Bitmap Images

I'm trying to use Photo Mechanic 4.6.9 to apply metadata with IPTC stationary pads to bitmap images. A message appears saying files are not in a format that this version of Photo Mechanic can caption. Adobe Bridge would not caption them either. Can bitmap images be captioned with metadata fields, such as headline, keywords, etc? Is there another photo application to try?

When you say bitmap images, are you talking about .BMP files?  If so, they do not support the embedding of metadata in PM.  I know of no other software that will embed metadata in BMP files either.
