What happened to the "com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.plist"?
« on: October 02, 2012, 10:57:44 AM »
Hi Kirk,
Running new PM5 (good job... thanks!) on fresh MBP with OSX 10.7.5 ("fresh" because hard drive had to be replaced and re-installing everything from scratch for clean install, including new PM5)

Looking for newly created .snaps which I believe were in "com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.plist" or " com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic.prefs" folder in Library>Caches from PM4.6.8 ... But can't seem to find. Spotlight search for any of the above including name of individual snap not yeilding results.

I see that Exporting from Preferences includes various snaps

-Is this how/where they are found/stored in PM5?

Thanks for another great product.
Andre

It would be "/Users/your user name/Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic/".  I don't think Spotlight indexes the prefs folder but I could be wrong on that.

Hmmm.... I was afraid you'd say that. There is no Library folder in my Users/UserName folder.
Now it seems to be an Apple thing.

*sigh*

Thanks for the quick response.

Found the solution:

Mac OS X 10.7 & OS X 10.8 defaults to hiding the users Library directory, this is probably to keep people from accidentally deleting or damaging files that are necessary for OS X Lion to function properly. That is fine for novice users, but for some of us, we want to be able to access ~/Library/ at will. A visible Library folder was also the default setting in past versions of Mac OS X, here is how to get this back.

Show User ~/Library in OS X Lion & Mountain Lion
Launch Terminal from Spotlight or Launchpad -> Utilities, and enter the following command to show or hide the directory:
chflags nohidden ~/Library/

The users Library folder will immediately become visible again. Reverting this back to the standard Lion setting is simple too:

Hide User ~/Library in OS X Lion (default setting)
This returns to the default setting of hiding the user Library directory:
chflags hidden ~/Library

Changes take effect immediately again, and Library becomes invisible to the user.

Or you can use the Finder's Go To Folder command and enter:

~/Library/Preferences

...and the Finder will show you your Preferences folder.

Hi!

As an "one time alternative" you can open the finder, click "Go to" and press the option key. Library appears in the list.
