Burn and verifying DVD took too long
« on: October 07, 2012, 11:39:18 PM »
Hi All,

I used Photo Mechanic v. 5 to burn a DVD of 4.7 GB. It took me one hour and it was still verifying till 6%. I need to burn about 12 DVD after a job. I tried not to verify them but my client couldn't open it.

I am using Vista, and my writer is Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-8525 ATA Device.

My laptop is Fujitsu, using the built-in DVD software took 20 mins to burn and verified a 4.3 GB DVD.

Anyone can help me with this please?

I know this issue has been brought up before but I couldn't find a solution.

bst

We license a DVD/CD burner library from another company and it hasn't been updated for a while.  It is probably running at 1x on your particular hardware.

Thanks, if I do not verify it after burning how much chance of error will I have?

Verifying only lets you know if errors occurred.  It doesn't reduce the occurrence of errors.

Sam: Win 7 Pro 64Gb, PM5 (unable to access "help" to get the build # while burning but it is the most recent version).

I also have this experience.

On yesterdays attempt had to force restart my machine as I presumed it had stalled after 2 hours.

Today did a test CD with 4 jpegs succesfully in what seemed like normal time.

Trying it again now with the same jpegs on a DVD but the progress bar is stuck at 66%. Another force restart coming up.

Is the issue with the disc type?

I'm using PM more and more and I'd love to be able to add this to my workflow when the burning issue is fixed up.

Overall - love your software!

I don't know.  What kind of discs are you using?

I suggest simply skipping the verification for now.

Checking out PM5 demo today.  Can't tell you how disturbing that last answer is.   I have a 4.x.x version which works very well.  Why on earth would I "upgrade" to problems ?   No way am I burning archive DVDs unverified - ever

I am surprised that you can burn and verify with no problems on PM 4.6.x since absolutely no changes were made in PM 5 in regards to the disc burning feature.

I wonder if perhaps there is an installation issue going on here.
