Symbolic Links with PM 5 on Mac Mountain Lion...
« on: March 30, 2013, 07:35:10 PM »
Trying to use symbolic links on some folders so I don't have to duplicate them....
They seem to work fine through the finder but PM doesnt even show them in the navigator...
Any thoughts?

PM doesn't support symlinks or aliases.

Well that explains it!
I thought they were impossible to avoid...
Is there any other solution?
Is it specifically disabled (to stop pm trying to access the same folder twice) or just not implemented?

I want to move my documents folder onto a different local drive to save space on my system drive which is an ssd but need to have a sym linc in place so as not to confuse program installations and auto saves.....

I would also like to use them in the folder that syncs photos to my iPad and iPhone.

It's useful to be able to browse and edit these in PM

The use of aliases/symbolic links allows one to have their images e.g. on a different hard drive while still retaining a common directory structure. Support for such is something I would really like to added to PM as soon as possible as it would help me (and others) a lot. To be honest it still baffles me that PM does not support them while IMO there's not much to change in the implementation (in fact, I think PM has to do something to disable them…)

So like Marc, I ask: please support symbolic links (and aliases).

Many thanks,
Hayo

+1!
I run into a similar problem on my PC when trying to use the link 'Google Drive' for transfer of photos from laptop to desktop via the cloud.

Thanks!
