Restore settings on new computer
« on: January 21, 2014, 07:30:47 PM »
I had to get a new MacBook Pro, replacing a 2007 model. When I restore the system from Time Machine, the new machine runs slow and takes 10+ minutes to boot.

Apple is telling me to install software new, instead of restoring from Time Machine, so I erased the drive and started over from factory specs.

I'm all set with Photo Mechanic 5 installed, but can't find where all of my previous settings were stored. System? Library? Help!

They were in your home folder's Library/Preferences/com.camerabits.PhotoMechanic folder.  You may have a difficult time finding the "Library" folder because Apple decided it should be hidden from you.  You can still get there however.  Use the Go to Folder... command on the Go menu and enter ~/Library/Preferences

Or: open the finder, click the "Go to" menu, press the "alt" key and "Library" appears.
After 5 years of absence I restarted the photography.

Or, if you're on Mavericks, open your home folder and in its view options, enable the one that reads "Show Library Folder"

(Yes, it seems Apple has been listening…)

Cheers,
Hayo
