Paco,

Thanks for the sample file.  It has both IPTC and XMP metadata.  The XMP metadata has España perfectly formed in it.  The IPTC data is well-formed and is encoded as UTF-8 and España is written correctly.

It sounds like the software you use to generate your gallery doesn't understand UTF-8.  As for why your other image works fine, I can only speculate (you'd have to give me that one as a sample as well) but I'd expect that its IPTC data is not encoded as UTF-8.  Your IPTC/XMP settings do show that you're not choosing to write IPTC as UTF-8.

I don't have access to your original text that described which image was written out by the IPTC Stationery Pad and which one was written out by the IPTC Info dialog, but the IPTC Stationery Pad doesn't have any ability to change the encoding like the IPTC Info dialog does (the IPTC Info has a 'Write as Unicode' checkbox).

Did any other software besides PM 4.6.x modify these files prior to uploading?

No, both were uploaded at the same time after make a Save As from PM itself.. just changed resolution in both pictures, anything was written after, in the other hand the software which runs my web gallery  doesn`t understand unicode just latin1 western european, such as I set up in the PM iptc preferences, so, nothing written in uincode will works, also both pictures display the text correctly when opened into PM, the problem appears just once uploaded, and it seems just stationary Pad issue due that the issue doesn't happens when I write the info doing clcik in the thumbnail button info.

If the stationary pad is changing the info to unicode somewhere, then, there is the problem.

If that is indeed the problem then I won't be able to help you solve the problem.  Photo Mechanic 4.6.x is no longer being maintained and as such I cannot fix the problem in PM 4.6.  If the problem exists in PM 5, I could fix it there.

I looked at the second image you provided and it has IPTC metadata that is not encoded in UTF-8.

thanks

I would fix the problem in the software that makes up PM5.

very easy... the question was that formely it was working perfectly every time I exported from lightroom, the problem started once I updated to Lightroom 4 , so I concentrate my efforts in Lightroom not into PM, I deduced that in some way Ligtroom was writting metadata by itself, so after take a look everywhere, I discovered how disable it into the export window, there you will see the option menu Metadata, just select the Write just copyright and the photos will be exported without any metadata  in it, so I can use the stationery pad due that the file exported to PM is free of data and was not codified previously by Lightroom...thats all

you can check it : http://www.baiximagenes.es/cgi-bin/image.cgi?direct=Pruebas_baiximagenes all pictures were written using IPTC Stationery Pad

pacoferia,

If you can reproduce the same problem using an updated version of Photo Mechanic then I'd like to see an example file. The ones you've posted earlier all contain software stamps from an older version of PM and Adobe Lightroom. The version of 4.6 you have isn't up to date with the latest of that series, according to your preferences screen shot. Our latest 4.6 is 4.6.9 available from http://www.camerabits.com/download

Is there a reason you're setting IPTC as preferred instead of XMP? That's how the older versions come set, however this is not what's recommend for modern workflows.

Hi Brandon

Sorry I don't catch you at all. the PM version I'm using is the one you mentioned 4.6.9 (shoot below ), in the other hand I've explained where the problem came from, basically you can change the code language by captioning pictures individually according the parameters settings in iptc/xpm preferences pane, but not using iptc stationery ipad, due that stationary can`t change that, when I was exporting from lightroom, pictures were captioning in some fields by Lightroom itself ( uicode ), so when I open stationery Pa in PM in order to captioning them, they were already codified as unicode, the only one thing I had to do is avoid the pictures exporting any data  from Lightroom, et voila! problem fix... make sense?
