Pm running slow and lagging

Can someone help me, ever since I bought PM it has run very slow taking forever to ingest files, then lagging in the contact sheet and the previews. I read about re-setting the preferences and that worked until I shut PM down, the next time I opened PM it went back to lagging and acting really slow.

 I am running PM 5 build 15451 on a Mac Pro 2008 OS X10.9.3 with 12 gigs of ram.
