Files saved by PM crashing ACR
« on: May 12, 2014, 08:30:34 PM »
Files that are saved by PM cause ACR to crash.  If you would like to try this yourself here is what I am doing....

1. Open the file in PM preview window.
2. Set the crop
3. Set color class
4. Save the file with the crop applied (no scaling)
5. Hit ctrl-e to send the file to CS
6. File open in ACR.
7. Click open file on ACR
8. Photoshop CC immediately crashes... everytime.

If I send the original file with the crop mask to ACR/CC it does not crash and everything works. Only files that have been saved by PM 5 are causing the issue.

Yes I use ACR to open all files RAW as well as jpgs.

JPEGs are crashing?  Or is it RAW files?  You can certainly have PM not modify your RAW files (which is recommended if you use Adobe products).  Open the Preferences dialog, go to the IPTC/XMP section, click on the lighting bolt icon, then choose the [Adobe Products] item.

For those RAW images that have already been modified, you can undo your changes and get your original RAW files back.  Select them and then choose the "Revert TIFF-based RAW to original" command on the Tools menu.  Make sure to set the checkbox titled "Backup IPTC/XMP to XMP sidecar files".

HTH,

Kirk this is for jpgs saved by PM.

Here is a sample.  I set the crop mask and applied the caption/iptc data. When opening in ACR, the ACR window does open but then with I click open image to have it open in CS it crashes CS. Happening every time. I've also forwarded a file to an 'inside' source at Adobe to see what they come up with on their end.

Here is the crash report from CS:

What happens if you open the file directly in Photoshop, bypassing ACR?  Does it still crash?

It sounds to me like a problem that Adobe will have to fix.

Hi Eric,

I just tested opening your file in ACR and found no problem whatsoever; it opened just fine. I tested this with both Photoshop CS6 and Photoshop CC (ACR for both is version 8.4) on a Mac (OS X 10.9.2).

I think  there may be a problem with you Photoshop installation…
