max image dimensions
« on: July 04, 2014, 06:01:49 PM »
Hello.

Does anyone there know what the max ht and width in the IPTC pad do in photomechanic? Does it restrict a file to a certain ht and width, or merely tell the user what the ht n width are?

I am trying to find a way to reliably send out images at 300 dpi and yet consistently under 2 megs

I read the PINNED post about sizing.

so I shoot raw to one card and jpg to the other. I ingest the jpgs for edit and send.   Still the limiting of the size does not seem to accomplish the goal.

Hi Mike,

Are you sure you mean the IPTC pad? (what height and width fields do you mean?)
Anyway, the IPTC pad is purely for the metadata and will not resize your image. If you want your image at a certain size, use Save As from the File menu, there you can specify height, width, minimum quality and max size (note: if you want to have your images not larger than a certain size, be sure to set a very low quality limit as the quality gets precedence over size!).

Hope this helps,
Hayo

the screen shot shows it under media, same area where you choose whether its a photo or an illustration, or otherwise not a true life scene.

I checked the box and applied it and that did nothing,...so thats one answer down.

Gonna eneter some ridiculously small ht and wdth and see if that does anything

Ah, those fields. Those will not alter the dimensions of your image. As I said, only the save as will accomplish that.

Hope this answers your question.

Mike,

That metadata is for rights usage.  It would let a client know what the maximum dimensions you would want them to be able to use in their advertising/promotion, etc.

If you want to make an image smaller, use the Save as dialog and use one of the scaling options.
