Duplication Issues
« on: April 08, 2014, 09:14:40 PM »
If I accidentally extract or copy duplicate files in to a destination PM dutifully adds a letter to the file name…
Could we have the option of canceling the action or overwriting the original set or changing the file name?

What file name would be changed (file already there or the new one) and how would you specify the changes to the file name?

Currently the new file has an A appended.
Can we have a dialog box come up asking whether we want to Rename Overwrite or Cancel the action…
Its controlled by this in prefs

I see, so what you really want is the current rename functionality as it is, along with the option to replace, or cancel the entire operation.

Overwriting is something that goes against PM's "philosophy".  We'll have to think about it.

Understood but at least the option to cancel would be great…..
Its painstaking to manually undo…

Maybe, like mentioned in other topic, having the dialog "rename, rewrite or skip" could work and avoid this problems.
Thanks

It's not hard to do a "Sort By" so those filenames with letters appended appear together.  Something like {filenamebase:-1} for a sort (Kirk, or someone please correct this if it's wrong) will put all the files with a letter appended together so they can easily be selected and deleted.  Yes, it's a couple of extra steps but it's fast.

Well consider adding a confirmation dialog.  Drag and drop copy already has a similar capability so this seems logical to me.
