Crop incompatibility with Photoshop
« on: August 27, 2014, 06:17:14 AM »
Hi, there is still a incompatibility with the Croptool in PM, when opening a crop marked JPG in PS, it doesn't show it cropped.
It works in PM in the save, export, send and ftp mode.
It works fine with RAW Files, but still not with JPG. May I ask why? It would be really helpful to speed up editing performance
under time pressure.

with regards from Switzerland

Are you cropping the JPEG in ACR or in the main Photoshop window?  If you reopen the JPEG in Photoshop, does it show the crop?

I'm opening the JPG File with Shortcut cmd-e in the main PS not in ACR. Yes, It works with opening in ACR.
But it should go straight from PM to PS with no additional step in ACR.

I don't believe that PS writes the crop info to XMP like ACR does.  Photoshop's non-ACR crop is likely proprietary.

Dominik,

For Photoshop to recognize a crop in XMP (whether in a JPG or RAW file or its sidecar), it has to go through ACR.  Photoshop itself doesn't interpret the XMP crop.  All RAW files will go through ACR when opening in Photoshop, but you have to specifically tell Photoshop, or ACR, to open JPEG files in ACR otherwise they will go straight into Photoshop and will not have the crop applied.

HTH.

Thank you Dennis for this explanation. This makes sense, although it would be really nice, easier and faster, to do as I mentioned.
I now have it configured as follow. JPG will open straight in PS main window, JPG with PM Crop will open in ACR...RAW files in ACR.
