Automating DNG conversion

Hello again,

I've just bought a Ricoh GR camera and have set it to record Raw (i.e. DNG) and JPEG files. Once ingested to PM, the DNGs show in pixellated form.

The matter was raised in this forum, and solved*, some while ago. The method Kirk suggested works fine, so thank you for that.

My question is whether that routine can be automated on ingestion or, if not, put on to an icon or hot key for easy activation.

What I have done here is add the Adobe DNG Converter to the list of editors so I can right click on an image and then “edit in adobe dng converter” (this way I have more control over all settings).

Perhaps something similar is a (temporary) solution for you too,

Thanks for the interesting suggestion, Hayo. I've had a play.

The sequence in Kirk's way is: select file(s), go main menu "Tools", click "Convert RAW to DNG", click "Convert". That's four steps.

The sequence in your way is: select file(s), go right menu "Edit photo", click, click "Convert", click "Exit". That's five steps.

Unless I've misunderstood what you meant or have miscounted, I'm afraid your way is slightly more laborious, not less.

Seeing the controls in the DNG converter each time has no value to me, as I'm only interested in creating files viewable accurately in PM. I can then choose with confidence which to edit.

I use Capture One Pro to do the editing. It doesn't care whether it's asked to work on a "raw" Raw file or a converted one but I use the former. (The converted files produce slightly brighter mid- and upper tones.)

Hi Roger,

Ah, right, in your case my proposed workflow is indeed no improvement. I like the additional flexibility of the converter gui, so for me things are slightly different (I actually call a script that does a bit more than just the dng conversion, so that is another reason for me to do it this way).

Anyway, the feature request you filed, I definitely support as I see it could be of value to many.
