Lightroom Edits Overwritten when importing Metadata/Keywords from PM

After adding keywords to my images via PM 5 (build 16299) my edits in LR 5.3 are being "reset" after selecting the LR option "Import Settings From Disk."   All my images are RAW and I've attached a screenshot of my PM IPTC settings.

How can I prevent the PM keyword updates from blowing away all my edits in LR?

This happens when you don't have LR write your edits to the (xmp) files but have it keep them in its own database (which is, sadly, the default behaviour of LR).
