Colour tags and RAW conversion
« on: May 02, 2018, 05:12:30 AM »
When I add a colour tag to my CR2 files in Photo Mechanic I would like those colour tags to also be applied to any JPEG file that I create in Adobe Camera RAW. I'm sure that this used to happen in Photo Mechanic but now all of my JPEGs and paired JPEG and CR2s show up without a colour tag after saving. Is there something that I can change? I've looked through the preferences and cannot see anything.

Thanks

Neil

Neil,

Please see: http://wiki.camerabits.com/en/index.php/User_Manual_Flat_View#Files_Preferences

Specifically:

Always update XMP Label when changing Color Class: Tells Photo Mechanic to set the XMP Label to the new Color Class name even if the XMP Label didn’t previously match the Color Class name.

Set that checkbox to on (checked).

HTH,

-Kirk

Thanks Kirk - I had already tried that but tried it again and it still doesn't work. I even quit Photo Mechanic after saving the change in the preferences and it still didn't work. The RAW file has a purple colour class (cmd 1) and when saved the resulting JPEG still has no colour class. I am starting to think that this is something that Photoshop is doing.

Is it possible for you to provide me with both the RAW (plus any XMP sidecar file) and the JPEG so I can examine them?

Thanks,

Did you sync up the color labels in preferences?

Hi Kirk

They are Canon CR2 RAW files from a 5D MkIV so bigger than the attachment limit - what do I do?

I can provide credentials to our FTP server or you can provide a link to them (via some service like DropBox).

Here are the files then https://www.dropbox.com/sh/451pwsxijvb7ft3/AADRIcLLIo6x8DbnvVVlvPX_a?dl=0

The CR2 and JPEG both show up tagged with the Color Class "Winner" for me.  I extracted the XMP metadata from the JPEG and it contains the following:

OK the answer appears to be to change the tag "When viewing photos in RAW + JPEG mode use the metadata from" to RAW and not JPEG. Once you do that, the tag shows correctly again. Thanks for your help.

Weird, the forums clipped all of the XMP data I posted.  I should have used the "insert code" option.  I learn something new every day.
