Sequential renaming "jumping" during ingest
« on: April 01, 2015, 03:43:09 PM »
Having an issue where the file names are jumping several hundred numbers during ingest. Any ideas?

The sequence number is a global value so if you use it in any other operations (copy/move/save as/upload/exporting/printing/etc.) then it will change from the last time you used it in Ingest.

Could that be the cause of your issue?  Or are not ever using the sequence variable in any other operations between your uses of Ingest?

Hi Kirk, this is happening in the middle of a disc .. ie it just randomly jumps DURING the ingest. I'm ingesting event photos so a bunch of pics off several cards. The jumps are mid card.

Running latest update of PM on a WIN7 laptop

In what ways are you using the sequence variable?

What build number is your install of Photo Mechanic?

Setting the event name ie. "wbwell15" Then using {seqn} starting at 00001 for the first card / image and ingesting the cards in order they're taken.

The leaps are random .. sometimes a few numbers and others are hundreds.

Are you using it in the Renaming string, or IPTC Stationery Pad?  How about posting a screen shot of your settings (anything that is using {seqn} or {sequence}?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot(s).

Thanks,

-Kirk

In the Ingest dialog, your sequence shows as 0123, but in the Set Sequence Variable dialog, it shows as 0001.  Did you just reset it?

Can you show me a directory listing of renamed files where there are gaps in the sequence?

Thanks,

-Kirk

Yep. Had just reset it.

Sorry had to rename the files to get them away to the client.

Any further ideas?

Had another issue today .. ingested a card and although it was ticked, the files were not renamed on ingest and not all the card was ingested.

Removed and re inserted the card and the rest of the files were ingested and renamed ..

At this point I suggest contacting our tech support folks at +1 503-547-2888 or via email at support@camerabits.com

Troubleshooting via the forums is not efficient at all.
