OSX Server mount not showing images
« on: May 09, 2015, 07:25:03 PM »
So I am running latest PM on Win8.1.

I connect over SMB to a Mac mini server and map a drive.

In Windows File Explorer I can see directories with images inside. I can open the images, save them, no problem.

When I try (either by dragging or Open) the same directory in PM, I can see no images. I can add the directory as a favorite, still can't see the images inside.

If I drag the directory to my desktop, then open in PM, No Problem.

PM lets me copy images to the directory across the network that I can't see the images in.

Any thoughts?

I don't know offhand why PM wouldn't be able to see files on your server.  You say you "map a drive" so does this mean you have a drive letter assigned as a mount point for the server volume?

I do have a drive letter.
And PM will show images in some folders, but not others, while windows file explorer shows them in all folders.

I have connected to the same server in the past without this problem. And the OSX clients are not having the issue.

What is different about the files/folders that do show up vs. the ones that don't?  Ownership differences?  Privilege differences?

None, no differences that I can detect. Just directories of JPG's. I am logged in with the same account on the Mac Mini server and my Win8.1 machine.

In fact one directory whose images were showing up in the morning, stopped showing them in the afternoon.

I will be back on site with that server on Tuesday. The one thing I did not try was browsing the network to the share instead of using the mapped drive letter. I will try that but can't imagine it would make a difference

So some more research.

I think it is an issue with seeing the 3rd folder in a nest of folders.
So in Number1\Number2\Number3 I can't see the images in Number3, bt can see them in the others.

I did a little screen capture of what is going on for you:

Did they not show up?  Do you have any filters active that would hide images with particular color classes or ratings?

Those are all in one of the directories that is working.

The ones that are not all have AdobeRGB images names starting with an underscore. However I changed the name to remove the underscore, but it still did not show up.

I have no filters, all stars and colors are on, and I have hit F1 a number of times.

I just deleted PM prefs files and rebooted, still be having the same.

OK.  I'm going to have to add some more logging code and get back to you.

I think I figure it out.

The server was ingesting and putting uppercase JPG on. I switched it to lowercase and it looks to be fine.

So I think while Windows is OK with JPG, it looks like PM might not like the upper case JPG in this instance.

The other PM users and photoshop all use lowercase so after we worked an image or saved it from PM I could see it.

Is the filesystem on the Mac OS X Server a Case-Sensitive filesystem?

It is not case sensative.

however the lowercase fix, is not working on every directory. Very strange.

I ingested 3 cards with lowercase and all were fine. 1hour later ingested two cards with the same settings and images would not show up.

Very odd.

AJ,

I don't think it is a fix at all.  I'm sending you a link to a build and some more debug log flags for you to enable which will help me get to the bottom of the issue and fix it.

We're asking the OS via the FindFirstFile()/FindNextFile() to give us the directory contents at that path and it is returning no files or folders.  I'm wondering if there is some sort of issue with the tilde (~) in your path.  Can you remove it?
