Which IMac Pro for PM?
« on: March 27, 2018, 03:47:03 AM »
I’m about to order an iMac Pro and I was wondering  between a lower processor speed with 10 cores and a higher processor speed 8 cores would be best to run PM. Is it coded at all to take advantage of multicire?

Yes, PM is very much multi-threaded and takes advantage of multiple CPUs/cores.  PM6, in development, takes this even further.

It really depends on how big the processor speed gap is.  Also, SSD drives really help.

The processor gap does not seem to be much:

either the 10 core 3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz

or

8 core is 3.2GHz 8-core Intel Xeon W processor Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz

and yes I am getting SSD and 64 gig ram.

Both sound great.  PM6 is also a 64-bit application so it can have a very large Memory Cache which also speeds things up significantly.

Ok Thank you very much, I may settle for the 8 core with 64 ram and SSD , which is a bit more reasonably.

It should positively fly with PM6.

We don't have a release date at this time.  There will likely be a public beta for you to try though.
