Reading Capture NX "Save As" files
« on: August 01, 2006, 04:21:54 PM »
One of the new features of Capture NX is it will allow you to open and JPG file and save it as a NEF file. Capture NX and Capture V4.4 both work with the new "raw" file. However, PM contact sheets can't display or preview the new raw file.

Has anybody seen this before.

I'm not surprised.  What a weird thing to do with a JPEG.  Can you upload a sample file for us?  Contact me privately for server upload info.

Thanks,

Hi Kirk,

What a weird thing to do with a JPEG.

The logic behind this is Nikon Capture NX can store unlimited versions in the header of the NEF. Pity Nikon didn't use a more "open" solution like XMP. Not surprisingly its versioning is proprietary to Nikon Capture NX.
