1DX mov (movie) files not visible in PM ?
« on: January 01, 2016, 12:26:10 AM »
Hello

Does the PM enable Canon 1DX .mov (movie) files to be seen as thumbnails ?

This feature works well with the Canon MK IV; however, does not seem to function for the 1DX.

Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 16960 (6ba2289)

Thanks,   WilloW

I see no reason why it shouldn't show, other than that somehow the format is not supported by QuickTime (which PM uses to display videos). This seems unlikely to me, though, but still something to check.

If you're on Windows, you'll need to install QuickTime (free from Apple).

Hello Kirk

Thanks for the reply.  I on a MAC.

In 'sort  by capture time' the .mov files are not listed (no thumbnails).   However, in the 'sort by {type}' field the .mov thumbnails are listed together at the bottom of the page.

Is there some reason why the .mov files do not show when 'sort by capture time' is selected ?

Thanks,   WilloW

You mean they actually disappear from the contact sheet depending on which sort type you choose?

As for PM not playing your movies (or rendering them at all), does QuickTime Player show them?  If not, neither will PM.

Hi Kirk

Yes this is correct.  When in 'sort by capture' the .mov file thumbnails are not seen; however, they are visible in other fields  such as 'sort by type'.

However, I uninstalled PM and reinstalled and now the .mov files can be viewed.

I have no idea why but reinstalling PM seems to have rectified the issue (minimal testing though).   ;D

I have never had an issue with PM playing the video files.

We'll see how things go.  THANK YOU,    WilloW
