PM behaves differently on Win10 laptop and win7 PC
« on: January 18, 2016, 11:15:50 PM »
I recently upgraded to a new laptop with windows 10.
Here the scenario
All the files are imported on to my NAS using Linux. I import Sony ARW raw files
On the desktop I have windows 7
PM and Capture One Pro 9
On my laptop Windows 10
PM and Capture One Pro 9

If I use any of these applications above except PM on the laptop the rating is visible to all the other software. Color coding is not really coming along too well but that is another story and less important

If I rate on my laptop no other software not even on the laptop will see the changes.
Initially I though it may be a permission problem but CP1 can update the same files and will update the xmp file. I checked by looking at the xmp file after every change with writepad

Only in PM the xmp file is not updated. I have compared my settings and they are identical to my desktop.
I did copy some file locally to my C drive I tested with jped files and I still have the same behavior.

Any suggestions would be appreciated I have no longer any ideas why PM may have 2 different behaviors

I suggest exporting the preferences from the working computer and then importing them on the computer that is giving you trouble.

On the working computer, open up the Preferences dialog in Photo Mechanic.  Click on the Export button.  All of the preferences should be selected already.  Export.  Copy the resulting .PMX file to the other computer.

On the other computer, open up the Preferences dialog in Photo Mechanic.  Click on the Import button.  Choose your .PMX file and Import all of the settings.

Please let me know if you still have problems after this procedure.

Hi Kirk,

Thanks I did try your suggestion. I exported all the settings from my desktop and imported on the laptop.

The result seems even worse now. I tried with local files only. What ever I change in PM or Capture One are not visible to the other product.

Any other suggestions ?

At this point, I'd like to see what your IPTC/XMP settings are in Photo Mechanic, and it would be good to see a set of files that have been modified by PM and C1.  If you have a place you can put them and give me a URL to access them with then that would be great, or otherwise I can give you our FTP server info and you can upload your files there.  Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Hi Kirk,

I did many extensive tests testing the different options I could not re create the issue locally but it failed on the network drive. I found that the underlying Linux permission did cause the problem.
After that I did some more tests and initially Updates in PM would would not be reflected in CP1 and updates in CP1 would be overwritten by the old settings inside PM.
I got to a point where this did seem completely hopeless.

I decided that reboot was my only hope and miracle now it works in every direct and just fine like I expect it to work.

Thanks for your help. Now I can focus on the less important issue with color codes being transmitted to CP1
