Newby Q's: Directory on Ingest and Stationery File
« on: February 16, 2016, 09:20:07 AM »
Four quickies having used a bit and watched a video or three:

1) Ingest: Does/Can PM create the directories into which the files are copied, or does that have to be done before hand? And given that there can be a primary and secondary (backup) location, can these be on different drives?
2) Ingest: Found the keyboard short-cuts, but not the list of how to reference certain variables (like date) for file names. Where are these listed? There's also a funny character in some of the keyboard shortcuts that I assume is a keyboard combination, but whether it was CTRL, ALT, SHIFT, etc. I wasn't clear which conventions you were using. Seemed to be assumed and understood by the cognoscenti of which I am not one. Please advise here, too.
3) Not sure I understand how all the file credits are actually applied to the photos. See a lot of boxes to fill, but not sure what to put in these (how to use them) and what the effects are. Video sort of seemed to assume I knew all this. I don't. Where can I find more info?
4) Dragging to editor: Watched this youtube, but wasn't sure whether new copies would be made in Lightroom, Photoshop or Photo Ninja from the PM source files... or whether the exported files would retain original copies in PM. Don't want to lose my "virgin" originals... even if I do want to edit.

Thanks!

Ingest can create directories for you, yes.  The destinations can be on different drives, yes.

The ⌘ is the command key on Mac OS X.  Generally it would be the Control key on Windows.

3) Not sure I understand how all the file credits are actually applied to the photos. See a lot of boxes to fill, but not sure what to put in these (how to use them) and what the effects are. Video sort of seemed to assume I knew all this. I don't. Where can I find more info?

They're stored in XMP metadata either inside the photo or in XMP sidecar files.

If you'll be more specific with the fields you're interested in knowing more about, I'll obtain the information for you.

PM does not duplicate your images prior to sending them to any application.  When you edit in another application, save to a new file.
