Problem Two: Sony a7R and Save As
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:58:22 AM »
Camera:  Sony a7R = ILCE-7R
Laptop:  Macbook Pro Retina OS X 10.8.5 (12F2560)
Photo Mechanic:  Version 5.0, build 17338 (df27633)

Problem Two
The raw ARW file from this camera has pixel dimensions 7360 x 4912 and resolution 350 pixels/inch as reported in Photo Mechanic's Info section. After I select File > Save Photos As > TIFF > No Scaling, I then get a TIFF with pixel dimensions 1616 x 1080.

What am I doing wrong?

I will certainly admit to not knowing much about my new a7R. But I've never had something like this happen with any previous camera when performing a Save As from Photo Mechanic.

Thanks for any enlightenment!!

The larger size is the size of the RAW image which PM cannot render.  PM can only access your RAW file's embedded JPEG preview.  You could try converting to DNG and then PM will have a much larger preview (if you set the DNG conversion to render a full size preview).

This will likely solve your cropping issue as well.

Adobe's DNG Converter is free and PM's "Convert RAW to DNG" command on the Tools menu can be used to accomplish this.

Kirk, a belated thank you.

I did not realize that the Sony embedded JPG was smaller than the raw arw.
