MAPI problems
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:11:05 AM »
When I try to send photos by email through Photo Mechanic I get this error message;

Error: Unable to connect to MAPI. Photo Mechanic requires the use of MAPI to send email. Most email clients including Outlook Express support MAPI. You may want to seek the help of your system administrator or help desk to get MAPI operating correctly on your system. Details: Failed to logon to MAPI using a shared session, Error: 3

Well, what email client do you use?

I use both Microsoft Office Outlook and Exchange Server. I tried using the email function from PM with each email program open and I still get the error.

The applications don't need to be open at the time you use the Send Photos via email function.  MAPI just needs to be setup properly.  Usually this is fully automatic.

This may be of help: Setting up MAPI.

Kirk,
Thanks for the link. Unfortunately my emails are set up correctly via the instructions they state.
I should be able to get our IT professional to look at it later .

Did you ever get this to work?

I looked through the code again, and found a place where the MAPI logon would not bring up the UI to ask you for your profile and password, so if your account requires a password to logon to it, then the fix I added might correctly get you up and running.

Contact me privately for more details.

Thanks,

-Kirk

I use Mozilla Thunderbird on Windows and I am having this problem too.
According to the Mozilla forums, I need to 'enable' mapi support in Thunderbird by going to the
"Tools/Options/Make Thunderbird the default mail client".  I have done that.

I still get the "Error: Unable to connect to MAPI." error in PM.

Thunderbird only supports a subset of Simple MAPI which is what we use.  It doesn't fully support the following functions: MAPIAddress() and MAPIResolveName() both of which Photo Mechanic uses to send photos via email.

See here for more details.

I'm getting a Mapi error - not installed - I know I have previously sent images by email from in PM but I'm not sure when I did it last - I'm running 4.4.3.3 now & IE 7 & OE 6. the prior link did not help,  any ideas.
Thanks

While this page does not pertain specifically to Photo Mechanic, it does have some information on setting up MAPI on your system.
