Problem Accessing SD Cards
« on: April 30, 2017, 04:59:27 PM »
I am running Photo Mechanic Version 5.0, build 17719 (c8049ca), on Mac OS Sierra 10.12.4.  When I try to access my SD cards an error indicating that "your settings prevent any changes from being saved on Camera Disk"

See attached screen shot

By default, PM is set up so it won't allow you to work directly on a memory card. Not only is this slow, it is also very risky; the chances of something going wrong and you losing your work are much higher than when you work on e.g. your hard disk. You can change the settings in PM so it will allow you to work on memory cards directly, but I really suggest you ingest the memory card to your hard disk and work from there.

thank you for the feedback.  What I did was ingested my photos onto the SD card as I was traveling and wanted access to the photos. I am now assuming that it is not a good practice.  Will I get the same problem if I digest onto a mini thumb drive?

I think the drive will work fine, it's only the camera cards that are prevented from writing (by default).
