Deleted files vanish rather than go to Trash
« on: July 17, 2017, 10:16:44 PM »
I found an ancient thread on this topic, but figured I'd post this as a new (or at least recent) occurrence in case it is new to the version:

Was deleting files inside a folder on an external HD.  Had second thoughts on several frames and went to dig them out of Trash... but lo, the Trash is completely empty.  I read this may have something to do with OSx permissions, but that thread was from 2012.

Anyone else experiencing this?

When you look at the trash for the deleted files, is the external drive still connected? If not, that explains it; the trash is located on the drive you deleted the files from, not somewhere globally.

Hayo - A very strange thing indeed.  The external drive was connected the whole time, but I followed up on your suggestion by sending (deleting) a single file from my MBP and found that one file alone in the Trash.

I then deleted a single file from the external drive; lo and behold, that file, along with 2000 other files showed up in the Trash folder.  Not sure what to say about that, but functionality appears to have returned to normal.

Thanks for your reply.

When I delete a picture, I have this alert :

Are you sure you want to move the selected item to the Trash?
Any items on remote volumes will be permanently deleted.

You are right, that's the alert I get too. But it is actually in error: remote drives (even FAT ones) support the trash just fine!

(@Kirk: what is the reason for this warning, perhaps a Windows thing?)

If the OS fails to move the file to the Trash (which is becoming a rare thing these days) then PM will follow up by deleting the file directly.
