Opening Multiple Folders
« on: April 07, 2007, 12:51:00 PM »
Would it possible to add a open subfolder feature routine?   What I'm looking for is a way to open all the files on a CD or DVD archive disk into a contact sheet without having to open each subfolder individually.  I'd like this feature so I can do contact sheets for copyright registration and a print archive.  If this feature is already available can you tell me where to find the instruction or share how?  I tried dropping the CD/DVD icon in the latest release but it just opens the folder dragged into the window and not the subfolder.

It's already there.  Use the Navigator to view the parent folder.

Then on Windows:
Right-click on the Parent folder to bring up the contextual menu.  On the Photo Mechanic submenu choose "Open folder and subfolders..."

or

Then on Mac OS X:
Right-click (or control-click on single button mice) and choose "Open folder and subfolders..." from the contextual menu that appears.

HTH,

Yes.  The filesystem should not matter.

Kirk-

Doesn't seem to work-

DNG_008
DNG_009
     2007-02-04
     2007-02-25
     2007-03-28
DNG_010

Selecting DNG_009, right click, select-Open folder and Subfolder in New contact sheet

Notice momentary flash of what seems to be a progress box....and then....nothing

System does not hand, but contact sheet is empty.

Hmm.  Well I just tried it again and I got a single contact sheet with over 2600 photos in it.  Did you do this from the Favorites or the Navigator?

Navigator.

I just tried it from the Navigator, with both options: one that reuses the current tab, and the one that creates a new tab.  Both worked fine for me.

Are you certain that those sub-folders have any images in them?  If so, can you browse them separately?

I tested it from both a DVD and a folder on the hard drive with 800 images with no problems with either drive systems.  Gear: XP with Memorex 16x DVD/CD drive.

Images in all dated folders and I can browse them all.

OK, well if you can contact me privately (click on my name to the left of this message and then send me a personal message) with your phone number and a best time to call, then we can work together to create a reproducible case on my system.
