Live Ingest off of FTP?
« on: January 10, 2017, 03:42:09 PM »
I've been trying to find a way to live ingest in PM off of FTP. Here is the workflow I'm trying to achieve.

A photographer in the field is transmitting selects out of his/her camera to our FTP using Nikon D4Ss with WT-5 transmitters. An editor in the office has Photomechanic live ingest off of the FTP for editing.

Currently, we've been just manually moving the files off of the FTP into the work folder. A live ingest would speed things up and keep it simpler.

I've almost got it working. If I open the FTP via Mac OS, I can select it as Live Ingest Source Folder. It will ingest any photos currently in the FTP folder, but it does not detect when additional files come in. This seems to be an OSX limitation, as it does not refresh the FTP folder. So it's close, but not close enough....

Is there anything else I can be doing here?

Thanks in advance.

Live Ingest only monitors local folders, so if you run an FTP server on your Mac and have the destination folder for uploads be on your Mac locally, then Live Ingest should work fine.

Bumping this feature request back up. We're getting into the thick of MLB playoffs and it would be amazing to have Photo Mechanic watch a remote FTP server for files being uploaded directly from cameras and then live ingest from that FTP to the local computer.

It would cut out a whole section of the remote editing workflow.

There are several options to sync an FTP site to a local folder that PM could monitor.

Here are two examples:

For Windows: http://ftpbox.org
For Mac or Windows: https://www.goodsync.com

I've got this added as under the new Feature Request system. If you'd find it useful, please go up-vote it there:
