Contact sheet displays wrong thumbnail

I have 2 scans of the same image, both with identical file names. I wanted to move the yellow scan into the same folder as the green scan, so to avoid a naming conflict I added an “A” to the end of the green scan, then moved the yellow scan over.

The issue is that the thumbnail of the yellow scan has inherited the thumbnail of the green scan when viewed in PM. If I select the yellow scan in the Finder, the correct thumbnail is displayed. Also, if I drag and drop both scans into any other folder, PM will display the correct thumbnails.

These images have not been added to a catalog.

Sounds like a caching problem.  If you changed the thumbnail size by one size (smaller or larger) I expect that the image would change to reflect the correct file.  Our caching system tracks files based on the path to the file and on the modification date of the file.  If your filesystem operation didn't cause the modification time to change, then our caching system would not flush its representations because it saw no actual change.

Changing the thumbnail size didn't work. I emptied the cache too but that didn't work either. The only thing that seems to fix this is to modify the image in Photoshop and re-save it.

This issue is a bit more serious than I thought.

I have a folder of sequentially-numbered TIFs. I needed to add a few more photos in the middle of the sequence, so obviously everything after the new photos needed to be renumbered. But like the example above, some of these photos display the wrong thumbnail in PM only, whereas the Finder shows the correct thumbnail.

But here’s where it gets extra weird. I used PM’s Save As to make jpg copies of the entire folder of newly renumbered photos. The resulting JPGs not only had the wrong thumbnail, but when I checked them in Photoshop, the actual image itself was the wrong one too.

I restored both folders from a backup copy and started from scratch, this time with PM5. Worked perfectly.
