Has PM handling of EXIF changed?
« on: August 10, 2020, 08:05:46 PM »
I've noticed that since the latest versions of PM (build 4851) and PM+ (build 4910), running on a MacOS 10.15.6, that after editing an image in PS or Affinity Photo and saving as a JPG, some exif date is "not there" in PM. Also, when I "Save as" these images for an online forum (nikonians.org) the EXIF info can no longer be read by their system. This is new behavior with these versions.

Here is the PM Info Text for the NEF:
File Name: 20200809-007.nef
File Location: /Users/mklass/Documents/Photo Ingest/20200809/
File Size: 61.2MB

Modification Date: 8/10/20 7:51:38 PM

This is what shows in the PM Info Text for the JPG:

I've attached the JPG. The NEF is 65MB, so too big for an attachment.

Fields like white balance, focus mode, flash comp are only stored in the maker note which is typically discarded by pixel editing software. The original JPG should still have this information like the NEF.  If you save a JPG from a JPG in PM (e.g. to crop), then we preserve the maker note.

Thanks for the clarification, Dennis. Generally, I take the NEF into PP software and create a JPG there. That seems to be where those bits of information are lost (at least when I use ACR or affinity Photo.  CNX-D keeps those fields intact).

I can't figure out why nikonians.org can't even read the EXIF anymore.

As they say, the nice thing about standards is there are so many to choose from.
