Gathering sort info taks alot of time.....

Im a sports photographer and use PM for the past 10 Years (or more..)
Lately when I open a file with 5000 photos the Gathering sort info tasks a l o t of time. WHY?
It takes almost the same time as export at Lightroom.....
I Use Pc platform.

What sorting are you using? If it involves metadata inside the files, it will be slow since PM needs to read the file before it can sort it. Lightroom reads that data once (when you ingest the images) and stores it in its catalog so it can sort faster. This holds true for PM's catalog too (of course), but not for normal browsing where there is no database of data to fall back to.

Fastest sorting is on filename and modification time (and arrangement). The others involve reading the files.

I use Capture Time.
It work great for the past 10 years. only lately it becomes slow. I know that by name is the fastest sort. But it was almost the same as a capture time
I usually ingest by pm because it chacks the files and if something goes wrong it turns red.

Have you perhaps changed file format? Different drive?

I'd like to see your Photo Mechanic log.  In Photo Mechanic go to the Help menu and choose "Reveal Support Data..." and moments later a Windows Explorer window will come forward with the zipped log file selected.  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your zipped PM log file.
