Can Pro recreate its catalog from meta data in the images?

Should something happen and the catalog is lost,
can PM recreate it by scanning all the images again?

I guess is all the catalog information that matters written to meta data for the photo
or will information be lost forever if the catalog should get lost?

Yes.  The only data that is lost is the Collections that you created.

@Kirk, what's about the opposite? Can we restore Metadata from PM Plus database to the photo files ? (use case: you have restored an old backup of photo files which do not contains the last updated metadata - when those updates are currently available in the current PM Plus DB)

No, not currently.

If the metadata in PM+ can be exported in or converted to an appropriate form there are Media Pro scripts that can import the metadata and embed it into the image files. I've used the MP data import function and it works well but I don't know how easy it might be to convert the PM+ data into the necessary format.
