How to speedup ingest process?
« on: January 18, 2022, 04:37:53 AM »
Hi,

I'm wondering why the ingest process is so slow in general. Today I've got a new computer. After installation I made some basic performance tests. The "experience" that PM is slow in ingest was more or less a "side-effect information". So what have I done?

CFexpress Type B card with 750 raw images from a Nikon Z9. Each file with approx. 35MB.

1.) copy all images with the Mac finder to my computer = 32sec
2.) ingest with PM = 2:07min

First of all, I fully understand that setting/filling the IPTC/XPM data with variables and renaming the files need some time. But here is a time difference of approx. 1:30min.

I'm using the latest release of PM and I'm wondering if I do something wrong of why the PM performance so poor?

Thx and greets,
Lars

Update:

turning of "apply metadata..." and "file renaming" during ingest = 1:57
So there is still 1min lost in space... (compared to native copy)

Can I see your Ingest settings for the slowest case?  Use the 'Attachments and other options' link when you're composing your reply to this message and there you'll be able to upload your JPEG format screenshot.

Thanks,

Lars,

Try changing the open contact sheets option to only open at the end or not at all.

Kirk,

I already tried this and it gave me 2 or sec 3 sec, only.

When you compared the speed of the Finder vs. PM, had you already ingested with PM?  If so, that's not a fair test.  The data on the disk will have been cached in the unified disk cache in macOS.  All copies from that point on will be accelerated.

Phototyke, I send a message with some additional information and a video to the support. Unfortunately, I didn't received any further response until now. I'll let you know.
