Trash tag?
« on: March 24, 2022, 03:35:44 AM »
Hi,

PM is great for culling photos. Many people can use different colors, stars or mix of them. Additionally there is a "Tag" feature which is great option for people who are okay with quite simple approach - tag keepers, than filter Untagged and delete them.

I'm for the second a more simple approach. But sometimes, typically during the culling of a large number of photos, I need to know which photos are already reviewed and are going to be deleted (mostly to choose best picture in a batch of similar photos). Something like in Lightroom, where you can use the flagging system with flags Pick, Reject, Unflagged. Plus there is a quick action to delete Rejected photos using a single click. If we think that Pick = PM Tag, Unflagged = PM Untagged, then only missing option is "Rejected" or "Trash".

It would be great addition to PM:
- Add a feature to mark photo as Trash/Rejected
- Similar to the action Tag to be able to mark with one key only (for instance "X")
- Photo marked as Trash would be somehow highlighted with Trash can icon (maybe red to clearly see it) or other visual element
- Add a quick filter "Trash" as addition to existing All/Selected/Tagged/Untagged - so you can quickly filter rejected photos, select them and delete
- Add a quick action to delete photos marked to trash (okay, this is quite risky operation, but photos are going to trash, so one can restore them in most cases)

If the functionality was added to PM, the culling would be excellent - in combination with "Automatically advance to next photo" option you can sit down, put your hands to "X" and "T" keys and go on 8)

I understand your request.  Here is an alternative to consider. The method I use is to rate the keepers 1-5 stars.  When I am culling and see an image that should be deleted, I tag it. When I am finished with my culling, I look at the tagged images only, confirm that they are all garbage, then delete them.  Based on that workflow, a "delete tag" is unnecessary.
