Create Previews from Full Image and not Embedded Preview
« on: May 24, 2023, 05:37:47 PM »
We switched to PM from Bridge several years ago because of the speed with which it would create previews from the embedded previews in image files. This has been a lifesaver because of how much time it saves us. This works great as long as the photographer has their camera set to embed full-size previews. Lately, we have run across some freelancers who either forget to set to embed full-size or whose camera doesn't support it. Is there a setting in Photo Mechanic that will create a preview from the image file if the embedded preview is not full-size? This is especially useful for wide shots of a stage or group shots.

You can turn on RAW rendering via the Adobe DNG Converter, but it will be slow.  If you only have a selection of images that need better previews, you can convert them to DNG with the Adobe DNG Converter and then use the generated DNGs and they'll have full-resolution previews.
