XMP files for DNG
« on: December 26, 2024, 11:34:55 AM »
Since DNG contains XMP, can PM avoid creating XMP files for the DNGs?  What about DNG+JPG pairs?  I assume all edits would be done with the DNG.
Also, would be great to have RAW conversion to DNG in place.  Most of my cameras (Leica/Pentax) shoot native DNG but occasionally some RAWs get in.

PM doesn't create XMP sidecar files for DNG images.  Nor would PM create a XMP sidecar file for a DNG and JPEG pair.

I'm not sure what you mean about RAW conversion to DNG, in place?

I'd like to run the Adobe DNG Converter upon ingestion to replace a non-DNG RAW file by the DNG it converts to.  For instance, Lightroom with a primary and secondary directories can ingest RAWs into the backup dir (aeocndary) and then convert into the primary.  Would it be possible to reproduce it with PM?

Update: used Convert to DNG today.  It simply drops new DNGs into the same folder as the originals.  So that's almost there!  Could we have two checkboxes to optionally

-- auto-catalog the new DNGs
-- remove the original RAWs?

... and then of course also having that option in the Ingest would be best.
