Changing or adding shortcuts
« on: June 03, 2017, 07:39:35 AM »
Is there a way to change shortcuts? Different languages do have different keyboards, so some user may need to change something.
For example the [ ] keys on a german keyboard are located on the upper number keys on option&5 and 6. The important shortcuts for "next photo" and "save and move to next photo" in IPTC Info do not work. How can I fix that?

No, there is no way to customize the keyboard shortcuts in Photo Mechanic at this time.

Hm.....too bad. My hope is in the words "at this time"

As you know, adjusting IPTC text is essential in editing and one of the most used function.
The miss of a "working" shortcut is a true handicap.

Has anyone had the same problem? I just figured out something very interesting.
If you use the "old" classic IPTC Dialog, you have different shortcuts for "save & move to next".
If you deactivate the classic, you can use a more common shortcut like cmd-B or cmd-N for the same action,
but that works perfectly on a german/ swiss-german keyboard.

Strange, that there are different shortcuts, but hey, I found a way and just wanted to share that with you.

Hey Kirk
Any news on custom Keyboard shortcuts?

I would love to set "~" to "0" rating or "rating cancellation" for colling down a process, in my opinion, it will be very handy.

I wish we could modify the keys too. How hard can it be to implement it?

The star ratings are fine, but to have to use a modifier key for colour labels is a pain.

The ability to modify keyboard shortcuts would be really appreciated;

- The "[" and "]" keys on non-american keyboards are awkwardly placed and practically unusable.
- CTRL + left/right arrow is more intuitive than CTRL-n / CTRL-b to advance/return.
- It would be really handy to have 1-3 for color ratings, 4,5 for star ratings as I use both
- Return to preview, space to zoom. Like other programs.
- Remove all shortcuts not relevant to prevent accidental hits.
etc.

Command-A is deadly as "Apply collection to selected," as that means something else in every other app. I keep using it and it keeps messing me up. I would love to change that one in particular.

PM does not appear to honor custom shortcuts created according to the instructions in this video for macOS.

https://youtu.be/s6BL2pWYNfA?si=yW-Yl7fJAoRc4Zgj

Is there something preventing, or some other way to override the built-in shortcuts?

This is a very unfortunate limitation of PM and truly needs to be addressed. The users are requesting the feature.

Thanks
