Recognize VueScan raw DNG files?
« on: April 10, 2007, 01:12:08 PM »
VueScan (http://www.hamrick.com) operates flatbed and film scanners and can produce raw files.  Photo Mechanic seems to be able to use raw TIFF format files OK, but when I save the files in raw DNG format, it can't.  I see "Unsupported Format  Variant."  Is this a limitation of Photo Mechanic, or is it VueScan?

I've attached a small, example, DNG file from VueScan.

Unless VueScan can be set to put a JPEG preview into the DNG, then it will be unsupported.

I was not able to figure out how to get Vuescan to embed a preview image but, was able to use Adobe's DNG Converter (free tool for Mac and Win) to add a preview image by pointing the DNG converter tool at the folder of my Vuescan DNGs and had it "convert". Which in this case was really just adding a preview image. So, now PM shows me the DNG file the way we would expect.
Hope that helps. If you figured out a way of having Vuescan add a preview I would love to hear about it.
Cheers
