I am running PhotoMechanic 2026.6 build 9175 on an up-to-date Windows 11 machine.
I have just started taking a lot of macro and grass-track racing images, both of which produce a large number of files. Both of which also yield a vast number of images that need to be deleted quickly. My research shows that best practice is to tag the images one wants to keep rather than mark images for deletion.
I am using the Directory Opus 13 group burst shot image rename preset to split the resulting extremely large and unwieldy folder of images into more manageable folders for review.
I am using the culling technique of viewing all the untagged images in a folder, tagging the images I want to keep, and then reviewing the remaining untagged images one more time before I delete the lot.
PhotoMechanic is working unpredictably. I expect it to work so that when I tag an image, it disappears from the display, I see the next image to review, and PhotoMechanic displays only untagged images. This occasionally happens I tag an image it disappears and I progress to the next image.
However, occasionally and unpredictably, when I take an image, it doesn't disappear, and the next image does not appear for review.
I'm afraid I cannot work out what is going on, so I am asking this question.
This tag and remove from view is extremely useful, especially when, as in the case of macro photography, one can spend a morning doing macro and generate more than 2000 files which need to be reduced down to approximately 100 or so; insects tend to move, and once hit rate can be 10% if you're lucky.
What am I doing wrong?
Is there an issue between PhotoMechanic and Windows file manager? Is it possible to link PhotoMechanic to Directory Opus as an option, as Directory Opus seems to be a much more useful file management system for Windows?
Please advise and help.
