IPTC vs. Photo Mechanic metadata field names
« on: September 26, 2024, 01:43:49 PM »
IPTC has a list of field names here: https://iptc.org/std/photometadata/specification/iptc-pmd-techreference_2023.2.json

Photo Mechanic's field names are somewhat different. For example, IPTC's "description" is almost certainly Photo Mechanic's "Description/Caption" and IPTC's "cityName" is obviously Photo Mechanic's "City." And Photo Mechanic's "Event" has a couple candidates in IPTC, so some aren't so clear. Is there a master list of what IPTC calls fields vs. what Photo Mechanic calls them?

Here is a directory of sample files from the IPTC with pretty much every field filled out: https://iptc.org/std/photometadata/examples/

Open this image in Photo Mechanic and then open its Metadata Info panel and I think this will essentially be what you are looking for

I've also attached our sample file with all of the fields filled out with our field names, so if you upload this image to somewhere else that displays its metadata, you'll see what Photo Mechanic calls that field.

This is also this page in the Knowledge Base that connects the IPTC field names with what the corresponding variable is in Photo Mechanic:

I hope this helps.
