Request variable for DST (Daylight Saving Time)
« on: November 16, 2008, 06:30:23 AM »
Hallo Kirk,

I do travel a lot and as such work in a lot of time zones.
So for me time (and time difference with GMT/UTC) is important.
Especially as I sometimes forget to reset my camera before I change times zones.

In order to see to which time zone the recorded time in a photo relates I have put the following line in my Info Text List:
Time: {time} (UTC {itim:6}) which (as an example) returns:  Time: 15:30:01 (UTC +0100).
But in Photo Mechanic I can not find find the variable for DST, so I do not know if it is ON or OFF.
What I'm looking for is something like this:  Time: 15:30:01 (UTC +0100 DST:ON)

I currently use a Nikon D300 where you set the timezone and DST "ON" or "OFF" in the camera,
Nikon does update the recorded time by one hour but does not update the UTC value in case DST is set to ON.
Nikon in fact uses two parameters "UTC" and "DST" to indicate the offset from GMT.
In Capture NX2 both parameters are displayed, e.g.:  Worldtime:  UTC+01 DST:OFF  or UTC+01 DST:ON.

If DST is already somewhere in PM please indicate how to use it, but as I think it is not (yet) implemented
I hope you will consider to implement a "DST" (and "UTC") parameter in a future release of PM.

Best regards

Jan Buitenhuis

As an "afterthought":
If you implement UTC and DST variables, it would be nice to be also able to reset these recorded values
in the "Adjust Capture Date and Time" tool (in case I halfway in a photoshoot realize that I forgot to change to the new timezone).

From further investigation:

Nikon Capture NX2 reports Worldtime (UTC and DST) for the D300 camera.
However for the D2X camera no information is provided (Worldtime field remains empty).
Wonder if you can find a way to also extract this info from pictures taken with older camera's.

I don't know how this will work out with camera's of a different make.
From a previous threat I noticed that you are already working on an improvement in this regard.
So I just check out coming updates.

Regards
