Remove finder icons
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:18:10 PM »
Since Leopard Mac OS 10.5 creates its own finder previews for use in Coverflow. it is preferable not to have embedded previews.

I have reset Adobe Photoshop so as not to create preview icons but still have a legacy of tens of thousands of jpegs with embedded icons.

They displau in Apple finder icon view without a white border and show blurry in Coverflow. Once the preview is removed Leopard automatically creates a new icon with a white border. This files then show crystal clear in Coverflow.

Is there a way in PM to remove the finder icons?

You've got the code to add it so it ought to be simple.

I've used freeware Cocoathumbx  but would rather use PM.

It is also possible to open the info pallette and select/delete the icon there, but that is cumbersome.

thx

There is currently no feature in PM that will remove custom Finder icons from files.

OK. thanks

It would be an excellent feature addition since, with the changes to Leopard, Coverflow does not work correctly with custom finder icons in 10.5.x

This may also be something that Apple should make a preference in the Finder: Ignore custom Finder icons in Coverflow View

PM will only create icons on your files if you tell it to do so.

If PM was able to make 512x512  icons, which is apparently the new Apple standard as of OS 10.5, then that might also solve the problem.

If you’re designing an application icon for Mac OS X v10.5 and later, you should supply a 512 x 512 pixel version of the image.

Your quote refers specifically to the application icon.
