star variable?

I put the variable {colorclassval} in the suppcat IPTC field so I can search for a particularly color tag. Is there a variable for the star ranking? so I can search for say red (CC3) & 4 star (SR4).

Yes.  There are three variants: {rating}, {stars}, and {rate}
