It is a known bug in Mac OS X 10.5.3 and higher.  We have filed a bug report with Apple well over a month ago.  Apple still has not fixed this bug.  The only workaround is to use Photo Mechanic 4.5.3.2 and to have the 'Review email in email application before sending' feature turned on.  Then Apple's Mail application won't lockup.

Version 4.5.3.2 is a free upgrade for all 4.5.x users.
