I would love to see Photo Mechanic add the ability to display the autofocus point recorded by supported cameras, particularly Nikon cameras such as the Z8 and Z9.
Photo Mechanic has become an incredible tool for quickly culling very large shoots. For bird and wildlife photography, I may come back with tens of thousands of images from high-speed bursts. Photo Mechanic lets me move through those images extraordinarily quickly, zoom in, and visually determine whether the eye is sharp.
What would make this workflow even better would be an optional focus-point overlay in the Preview window.
For example, when viewing an image from a Nikon Z8/Z9, Photo Mechanic could display a small red square or rectangle showing the AF point/area that the camera recorded at the time of capture. Ideally this could simply be toggled on or off with a keyboard shortcut.
This would not replace checking actual sharpness at 100%—the recorded AF point does not necessarily mean that the subject at that point is perfectly sharp. But it would provide extremely useful information while culling. With birds in flight, for example, I could immediately see whether the camera was tracking the bird's eye, head, wing, background, etc., and then zoom in when necessary to confirm critical focus.
Nikon's own software can display recorded focus-point information, so at least some of this information appears to be available in the image metadata.
For photographers using Photo Mechanic specifically because of its incredible culling speed, having AF-point display + fast zoom + ratings/color classes all in one application would be fantastic.
