Under Windows 7 I get this message each time I insert a CF card containing NEF files:

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.  Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default programs control.

In Default Programs my default association for a NEF file is Capture NX2.  My autoplay pictures default is PM 4.6.1.

Is there any way to stop this message?

Are you running a 64-bit Windows 7?
Can you post a screen shot of the message dialog?

When I click OK, the dialog box closes and I go to PM and do Ctrl+G.

Under XP, when I inserted a CF card PM would automatically go to the Ingest dialog box.  I'd like to have that same behavior under Windows 7.

The AutoPlay handler in the Photo Mechanic installer is not a 64-bit module.  That said, I think someone on the forums figured out a way to get it to work in some way.  It was fairly recently that they posted their solution.

... if that is the thread, then I am unable to move the files as suggested because "access is denied."  I suppose if I started Windows in some sort of repair mode I could move the files, but I am not ready to try that just yet ...

Log in as administrator and you should be able to copy the files.

Weird, perhaps, as you already thought of yourself, starting the system in "safe boot" mode works. If that doesn't work, try booting from a CD/DVD, go to the command-line, and try from there. The problem is I can't test this for you as my main system is a Mac and I only have a 32 bit version of Windows 7 in a VM (and that, the test version Microsoft made available to the public).
